He told his story 25 years later at St. Benedict’s and St. Vincent Academy April 3 to both encourage the students to overcome their own challenges and to ask for their help in continuing the effort of building a school in his home village of Ariang.

Benedict's New 'Crew'

A few months ago the fate of the crew team was in question; there was no boat and no substantial funding to get the program moving. But thanks to an alumnus donor and the perseverance of the coaches this spring the crew team will participate in at least two boat races called regattas.

Blood Drive to be Held at The Hive

The National Honor Society will sponsor a blood drive in the HAB gym April 4. In order to participate in the blood drive a student must be 17 or older or 16 or with a parent’s  consent.

Click to visit their website. The blood drive will be run by the New York Blood Center.  St. Benedict’s students are supportive of the effort.

“I think it’s a great idea and it should happen more because a lot of people are in dire need of blood,” said senior Frantz Soiro.  And UDII Peter Santiago said that giving blood also benefits the donor.

“The fact that we could give a little bit of ourselves to help others is a good feeling,” said Peter Santiago.
